Perhaps the only thing more divisive than smartwatches and their ilk, is the question of how to wear one. I doubt that anyone reading this substitutes a smartwatch for a mechanical watch with any regularity, but those of us who wear one (I usually wear an Apple Watch) also often pair it with a mechanical Réplicas Richard Mille rm 61 watch on the other wrist.At HODINKEE, we often talk about the "collector gene," but at the same time, we're seeing a ton of people get into our worlds – streetwear and watches – that have never been there before. My loaner was delivered on a lovely silver-striped blue fabric strap that looks good and fausses Richard Mille rm 023 feels great. That said, this watch screams for either a NATO or an MN-style sewn elastic parachute strap. Not to worry, I have both for just suchHolding true to its gilt sibling, the case remains 39mm wide, 11.9mm thick (inclusive of the boxed sapphire crystal), and 47mm lug to lug. Water resistance is 200m with a very high-quality crown, and the lug width is a strap-change friendly 20mm. It’s literally the same watch beautifully covered by Stephen last year, but now in blue, and without the gilt accents.The first of the leap-year-equipped 5516s, of which just three yellow-gold examples are known, used a combined display in the sub-dial at six o'clock to show both the 48 months of the leap year cycle along with a distinct blued hand that indicated the active year in the four-year progression (shown above, over black background).The decision to make this watch essentially anonymous feels appropriate for a design that plays off of a popular historical trope. Close your eyes and think "early pilot watch," and it's likely that something like what you see here comes to mind.
